The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a story about a man who likes to daydream, but doesn’t get to be the one in his dreams in real life.
In his day dreams Walter Mitty is a person who is brave, confident, smart, undefeated, inscrutable, and respected. Others treat him like someone who is a leader with experience and knowledge and worth to trust. In his first dream, he was the commander of a navy hydroplane. He and his crew were going through a storm. No one could get them out of this natural disaster safely, but Walter. In his second dream, he was an outstanding surgeon. There was a problem about one machine. He fixed it and helped the other doctors continue the operation. He saved the case.
In reality, Walter Mitty is a man who is weak, gloomy, has a bad memory, follows his wife’s orders and cares nothing. Others treat him like someone who is a loser, doesn’t know how to take care of himself, thinks nothing, is aimless and is useless. In the second scene of real world, Walter’s daydream was interrupted by a parking-lot attendant. Walter parked on the wrong way. Also, on his way out, inside his head, the garage man thought Walter didn’t know how take his chains off. Walter was so frustrated by this experience that broke his shoe. In the last scene of real world, Walter’s wife found him. Only she was complaining about how hard it is to find Walter and other little things. Walter remained silent for a long time. She didn’t show the love between husbands and wives. But finally, he shouted out his feelings.
Walter Mitty daydreams because real world cannot satisfy him. He is too weak to express himself. Because others don’t know what Walter thinks and wants, they usually treat him as a fool.
